Devil Takes The Credit Again!
Picture this: It was a Saturday night, your husband told you he was going out with his friends later that night and immediately your mood changed because of some circumstance in the past.
Maybe his family battles with alcoholism, but he’s sober and recovering. You’re frustrated because you’re the only one that knows, since it seems that when he’s around certain individuals he can’t control the urge. Maybe he’s committed adultery that you’re still healing from, has physically hurt you or himself while intoxicated, got lost or went missing or wrecked a car or two and you just wonder what he’s going to do this time.
A part of you knows that he’s not the same version of himself that he was then, but another part of you doubts he’s really changed because it hasn’t been tested.
Those thoughts turned into anxiety and you tried to minimize the disappointment you’d have later, so you said things like “he’s gonna be out all night!” “he’s gonna drink too much!” “he’s probably out cheating on me again!” so you could be right when it happened.
You stayed up all night worrying. Negative thoughts circulated in your mind. You wanted to call to check on him(or make sure he’s wasn’t doing you wrong), but you didn’t want to to be THAT girl so you sat alone, dwelled and manifested the kind of night you were going to have because “it happens every time” right?
At some point you fell asleep, but when you woke up and it was 5 am and he was just coming in the door. He was drunk, falling all over, he wreaked of alcohol, and making up all kinds of noise while the kids slept. He was everything you said he was gonna be.
Now your frustration went up a notch because you hadn’t slept, you started a fight in which you accused him of the ideations that played in your head all night, you belittled him for relapsing and forgot about all of the times you needed grace….
And to top it off, you gave all the credit to the devil!
See, we like to call the good things manifestation and answered prayers but we call shortcomings demonic when in reality we’ve created the lives we live, in our relationships, finances, our children’s lives, etc. through the power of our tongue.
Yes it’s true that the enemy roams around looking for people he can manipulate and destroy (1 Peter 5:8) but he doesn’t ACTUALLY have the power to destroy us. The devil can only give us the tools to destroy ourselves. It’s up to you what you do with it.
Now, imagine everything about the past was still true, and some things just trigger you but in the present you’ve learned where to put your anxiety and insecurities.. in Gods hands. Imagine when your husband said “I’m going out tonight” you just said “Ok” and you took all of your worries and prayed.
Though you were still on the edge, you spoke safety, discernment, and wisdom over him. You prayed for his return home and wished him a good time and you slept well because you trusted The Holy Sprit to do the job.
When he came home he still smelled good, he spoke with no slurs and his aura shined just like it did when he left. You didn’t have the urge to go through his phone or question his whereabouts because it was well with your soul!
He had a great time with his friends he hadn’t seen in a while. He showered got in the bed next to you and slept peacefully.
Ahhhhh
We give our enemies too much credit! The devil can’t be everywhere at once but as long as he can keep us stuck in our own pity he doesn’t need to be because we do all the work in tearing ourselves down.
When we continue to repeat negative things that we’ve heard, learned and grew up with we keep ourselves in the cycle.
The devil planted a thought that we meditated on, built upon and based our lives on causing us to chase after a better version of ourselves to prove to him and that he’s wrong about us when he already knows!
You are already that person because that’s who God made you to be. (Genesis 1:27) so walk in that!
Our words have power. We say them, we hear them, we see them when we close our eyes, our brain stores them and the universe honors them, because that’s what God created it to do.
My encouragement and prayer today for whomever may be on the other side of this screen is that we be careful of the thoughts we put a voice to. Our hearts and mouths defile us but we should continue to thirst for righteous.
Prayer:
Dear God, We thank you for sending us The Holy Spirit to walk along side us, guide us and lead us, we pray for wisdom and understanding to respond righteously, to speak words of truth according to your word over the situations that serve to test us. We speak love and life over our children, our spouses, our enemies our finances and our minds, we resist the devil’s agenda giving all of our worries and our cares for you because you love us and you care for us.
Amen
